Janet Zweig's work, Your Voices, is an interactive installation consisting of twelve bronze boxes mounted in the lobby of Walton High School. The project, which evolved through discussions with students, provides a place for them to voice their ideas, opinions, feelings, and thoughts. Inspired by wishing wells, suggestion boxes and student newspapers, Zweig constructed twelve boxes (each with a slot, a lock, and a label to identify its contents) to solicit a range of responses from the students. The labels are: Suggestions; Problems; Wishes; Complaints; Ideas; Worries; Opinions; Fears; Dreams; Secrets; Fantasies; and Obsessions. Zweig invited students to write down their thoughts and place them in the boxes which are systematically emptied by a student editorial board. The students' contributions are arranged and published as handouts and later appear as an annual school publication. More about the Percent for Art Program
