Lightning Sharp In Conference Triumph Over Staten Island

Island, NY – The Lehman College women’s tennis team
(1-2 Overall, 1-1 CUNYAC) won their first game of the 2007 season Friday afternoon,
defeating the College of Staten Island Dolphins by a score of 6-3 Friday afternoon
at the CSI Tennis Center in Willowbrook, NY.
Lehman was crisp in doubles competition, capturing two out of three matches. At No. 2 doubles, the Lightning’s combination of Jennifer Merkel and Aurora Peters defeated CSI’s pairing of Yelena Rasporskaya and Mallory Furia by a score of 8-4. Lehman continued its solid play at No. 3 doubles, where Natalee Smith and Miriam Nkrumah scored an 8-2 victory over the Dolphins’ Jessamyn Lidasan and Qing Li.
When play switched over to singles, the Lightning’s Chanda Em scored an impressive victory at No. 2 singles, downing CSI’s Camille Dubois by scores of 6-3, 4-6, (10-5). Also notching singles wins for Lehman were Aurora Peters, Natalee Smith, and Miriam Nkrumah. Lehman captured four of the six singles flights in the match.
The Lightning will hope to build on their first victory of the
2007 season on Tuesday afternoon as they take on the New York City College of
Technology Yellow Jackets, with match time scheduled for 3:30pm. The match will
be played on the campus of York College.
