Lightning Struggle In Opening Two Sets, Fall In Four
New
York, NY – The Lehman College women's volleyball
team (1-2 Overall, 1-2 CUNYAC) dropped their 2nd game of the 2007 campaign,
falling to conference rival Baruch College (2-10 Overall, 1-2 CUNYAC) by scores
of 30-15, 30-17, 21-30, and 30-11 Tuesday evening at Baruch's ARC Arena in
New York, NY.
Despite the loss, the Lightning were paced by a sensational performance by
senior outside hitter Yohanna Sufran, as she recorded four kills along with
a game-high 14 digs. In addition, freshman setter Jillian Acevedo continued
to make an impact in her first year as a member of the Lightning, as she finished
the evening with a team-high 12 assists to go along with seven digs. Freshman
Crisset Maxwell was also terrific for Lehman, tallied a game-high five kills
to go along with seven digs.
The Lightning failed to establish a rhythm against their conference rival.
After Baruch staked claim to an early 2-0 advantage, the stingy Lightning
fought hard to capture the third set, keeping their hopes alive. Baruch bounced
back with a strong performance in the fourth set, however, downing the Lightning
30-11 to clinch the victory.
For the Bearcats, freshman Lauren Palmer and sophomore Mayra Estepan each
notched nine kills. Estepan also added five service aces and three assists.
Freshman setter Kristein Walker also turned in a phenomenal performance for
Baruch, dishing 37 assists to go along with four services aces and seven digs.
The Lightning will return to action on Thursday, September 20, as they travel
to the College of St. Elizabeth to battle the Eagles, with game-time scheduled
for 7:00pm.
