Lightning Continue Slide, Fall To 1-6 To Open 2007


Brooklyn, NY- The Lehman College women’s volleyball team (1-6 Overall, 1-2 CUNYAC) is still searching for its second victory of the season after falling to the Polytechnic University Blue Jays (5-3 Overall, 2-0 Skyline) by scores of 30-23, 30-21, and 30-22 Monday evening in Brooklyn, NY.

Despite the loss, senior Yohanna Sufran put together another impressive performance for the Lightning, tallying a team-high six kills to go along with nine digs. Junior Nicole Petralia chipped in with five kills and freshman Jillian Acevedo continued her early season success by compiling 13 assists and recording five digs.

The Blue Jays were lead by Meredith Shipman who turned in a sensational game with 12 kills and seven digs. Marie Brunelli tallied 16 assists for Polytechnic while Jackie Johnson finished with seven kills and six digs.

The Lightning will look to get on track Tuesday evening, as they continue their conference portion of the schedule with a battle against the York College Cardinals in Jamaica, NY, with match time scheduled for 7:00pm.
