Lightning Fight Valiantly, But Drop Non-Conference Contest
Bronx, NY – The Lehman College women’s volleyball team (2-7 Overall, 2-2 CUNYAC) fell for the sixth time in their last seven tries, dropping a non-conference battle to the St. Joseph’s (LI) Golden Eagles (3-11 Overall, 1-2 Skyline) by scores of 30-24, 30-27, and 30-27 Thursday evening at the Apex Arena in the Bronx, NY.
Slow starts seemed to doom the streaky Lightning throughout the night, as Lehman rallied towards the end of each set, but the Golden Eagles were able to persevere and complete each set strongly. Despite the loss, senior Yohanna Sufran put together another impressive performance, leading the way for her squad with 12 kills to go along with eight digs and three block solos. Freshman Jillian Acevedo turned in 18 digs to go along with six digs, while fellow freshman Crisset Maxwell finished the night with six kills to go along with 10 digs and four service aces.
The Lightning will now have four days off before returning to
action on Tuesday evening, as they head to John Jay College to battle the rival
bloodhounds, with match time scheduled for 6:00pm.
