Cross Country Teams Participate In NYU Invitational

New York, NY – The Lehman College men’s and women’s cross country teams participated in the NYU Invitational Saturday afternoon, gaining necessary experience that could propel them to future success down the road during the 2007 season.

On the women’s side, the Lightning placed finished 22nd in a field of 24 participating schools in the 6,000 meter race. Standout Dorothy Jean-Pierre, who performed brilliantly at the Vassar College Invitational a week ago, turned in a personal-best performance by completing the 6,000 meter race with a time of 24:59.4, good for 82nd overall. Geneseo State University captured the women’s event race with a total of 39 points, followed by Dickinson College (80 points) and Johns Hopkins University (105 points).

Unlike last week, the Lightning were able to score as a team in the race, finishing 23rd in a field of 25 participating schools in the 8,000 meter event. As he did a week ago, sensation Raul Sanchez turned in the fastest time of the male runners, completing the course with a personal-best time of 31:27.5. NYU’s men’s squad defended its home turf by winning the five-mile Invitational Open with 42 points.

The women’s cross country team will return to action next Saturday as they will participate in the Bard Invitational. The men’s squad will have 15 days off before their next meet which will be the Lightning Invitational on Sunday, September 30.
