SEVIS Fee Requirement for F-1 and J-1 visa applicants

The United States Department of Homeland Security requires F-1 and J-1 applicants to pay a one-time SEVIS fee when applying for a visa. This fee must be paid before the visa application will be processed by the U.S. Embassy.

The fee can be paid in the U.S. by family or friends but a copy of the payment receipts must be sent to the visa applicant. The fee can also be paid through Western Union. Since it can take several days before the payment of the fee is reflected at the U.S. Embassy we suggest the fee be paid as early as possible before the applicant’s appointment. The fee can not be paid at the Embassy.

  • F-1/Students $200.00
  • J-1 Exchange Visitors $180.00

Detailed information on this fee and the SEVIS I-901 payment form can be found on the U.S. Immigration website: www.fmjfee.com.

Please read the information on this website carefully. The Question and Answer section is especially helpful to determine who must pay this new fee.
