Adult Degree Program

Financing Your Education

Figuring out how to pay for college can be a challenge for some adult students, but there are many resources at Lehman that can help.

Lehman’s Financial Aid website has lots of helpful information including detailed explanations about the different kinds of financial aid available, links to forms, and videos that will walk you through how to apply. You can also connect to a financial aid staff member during business hours by using the live chat system. Just click on the bouncing lightening bug on the bottom right of the page and write the word “agent” in the dialogue box.

The first step to receiving any kind of financial aid is to complete the FAFSA form online. Once you complete the FAFSA, you will be prompted to complete the TAP application for NY State Aid. Make sure you do that too.

Students are often confused about where to get help with TAP because TAP is administered through the registrar’s office, not the financial aid office. You can learn much more about TAP by visiting the Lehman TAP office webpage.

If you do not have a social security number, you won’t be able to complete the FAFSA. Complete the Jose Peralta Dream Act application (JPDA) instead. That will also get you connected to TAP.

Even if you don’t think you’ll qualify for federal or state aid, it’s important to complete these applications since they are often required for other types of aid, including scholarships.

Scholarships

Lehman also has several scholarships you can apply for, including one just for ADP students, the Adult Student Achievement Award (ASAA)!

Visit the Lehman College Scholarship office for more information. You can apply for general Lehman College scholarships here.

ASAA Scholarship

Thanks to a generous donor, the Adult Degree Program has established the Adult Student Achievement Award (ASAA), a scholarship program for ADP students.  The scholarship is designed especially for students who do not receive vouchers or financial aid (other than loans) and pay out of pocket for their tuition.  The scholarship will pay 50% of the student’s out of pocket tuition costs.

If you are interested in being considered for the ASAA scholarship, please complete this form.
