About the Department of Music

The Music Department is committed to providing students the highest quality musical education in an inclusive and engaging learning environment. It offers comprehensive undergraduate and graduate degree programs with a variety of opportunities for individual creative development. The graduate program prepares students to teach music in the public schools with New York State Professional Certification. (more information). The 39 to 42-credit Master of Arts in Applied Music and Music Teaching is a professional degree, providing students with the Master's component for New York State Professional Certification, and guides them through the remaining requirements for certification eligibility (more information). The Department also serves the Bronx and surrounding areas with its diverse and active free admission performance schedule, involving students, alumni, college faculty and personnel, and many members of the community.
