Obscura
Obscura, the literary magazine of Lehman College is edited and produced by Lehman students, and solely features the writing, artwork, and photography of our students and alumni. If you would like to receive a hard copy of the magazine, contact the Department of English at 718-960-8556, or stop by Carman Hall, Room 302.
The previous incarnation of Lehman’s literary magazine was titled Footnotes - the last issue anyone could find in the Department of English dated back to 1985. Thus, the College has not had a literary publication for over twenty years, until Obscura was born.
Our student editors work on Obscura beginning in the summer and fall, soliciting and selecting content, editing, proofreading, along with the management of layout and production. For all of their hard work, the student editors receive neither stipends nor course credit, and yet they work diligently and professionally throughout the process, all the while gaining real-life experience.
This issue also features work by high school students, as a result of our growing partnership with the NYC Lab School for Collaborative Studies, one of the finest high schools in New York City.
Visit Obscura's Facebook page, and email LehmanLitMag@gmail.com for submission guidelines. Reading for the Spring 2014 issue will begin in September 2013.
If you would like to be a part of the Obscura editorial staff in the future, or you would like to submit your work for consideration, contact LehmanLitMag@gmail.com, or the Chair of the Dept. of English.
