Part-Time Hybrid Tutor Position

Lehman College’s School for Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) is widely recognized for providing students with the tools necessary to position themselves competitively in the workforce. The programs at the SCPS offer a wide array of skill-building professional certificates and licenses courses.

Description

The SCPS, Workforce Program is seeking tutors to support the instructor with the daily operations of the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) class online and in-person. Applicants must have a valid CNA certificate. Familiar with online teaching technologies such as zoom for class discussions and online learning platforms such as Moodle or Google Classroom is preferred. They must have good verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Tutoring Schedule: Flexible Schedule Required.
Online sessions: 10am-4pm or 6-9pm
All in-person sessions: 10am-4pm or 6-9pm at CUNY on the Concourse (COTC), 2501 Grand Concourse, Bronx

Hybrid CNA Courses:
Anatomy & Physiology (60 hours) Location: Online
Clinical Skills (35 hours) Location: In-Person COTC

Availability: Must be available at least 2 days per week

Responsibilities:

Before Each Online Class

  • Review syllabus and help students with course content and questions.
  • Manage instructional documents, including uploading poll questions to zoom, uploading course documents to Moodle, test videos links before the start of class, and posting homework assignments into Moodle.
  • Consult instructor on content questions or concerns before class.
  • Consult with program assistant on technical questions or concerns.

During Online Class

  • Start every session by logging into zoom 15 minutes before class start
  • Set and manage zoom security permissions for every session
  • Lock the class and take attendance 15 minutes into every session
  • Update attendance in Moodle
  • Take a screenshot of attendees for attendance, save and re-name the file to include the date and time of the session before emailing to Workforce admin staff.
  • Be prepared to share instructional videos/documents/polls during class.
  • Monitor zoom chat and participants list to identify and troubleshoot student concerns/questions on both content and tech
  • Be prepared to jump into class both audio and visually to assist with both classroom management and instruction
  • Assist in the proctoring of exams

After Online Class

  • After students leave the session. Stay on zoom to debrief with the instructor and preview the next session.
  • Immediately after the session, email the session attendance and include any questions or concerns.

In-person Skill Class

  • Review clinical skills videos before class
  • Review clinical skills videos before class
  • Be prepared to assist the instructor with lesson demonstration Practice and review skills with students

Scheduled Online Tutoring Sessions

  • In addition to normal online class activities, lead tutoring sessions
  • Prepare lessons to review course content previously taught
  • Review quiz questions and address technical questions
  • Practice skills with students

Program Management

  • Escalate student’s concerns to Lehman staff
  • Support orientations and attend program debriefs/meeting half-hour weekly

Requirement:

  • Must have a high school diploma
  • Must have a current NYS CNA Certificate
  • Must have computer and reliable internet access

Salary: Hourly $28 per hour

Continuing Education Technology Instructors

The Lehman College School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) anticipates a need for part-time teachers to conduct non-credit online and in-person classes throughout the academic year. Content areas include:

  • Remote work and learning platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox, and Google Workspace
  • Basic computer literacy on Windows and Macintosh systems
  • Microsoft Office
  • CompTIA and Cisco certification preparation (A+, Network+, Security+, CCNA)
  • Web Development (HTML, JavaScript, PHP and related tools)

Availability

The primary need is for instructors who are available to teach online synchronous classes at various times between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday-Friday. Evening and weekend classes may also be available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience and training in, and knowledge of, one or more of the content areas listed above
  • Teaching experience
  • Experience in synchronous and asynchronous online instruction using Zoom, Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, Blackboard or other learning management system
  • Experience as a technology trainer or support staff (formal or informal)
  • Experience in adult instruction and/or in supporting the use of technology by adults especially among those with low digital literacy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications in one or more of the subject matter areas listed above
  • Master’s degree
  • Experience in digital skills instruction to small business owners and employees
  • Experience in applying training in technology to workforce development
  • Ability to teach courses in additional languages (Spanish, Mandarin, etc.)
  • Experience in course development

Responsibilities

  • Teach students content according to course descriptions, syllabi and learning outcomes
  • Supplement the above with training activities and other content to assist students in the application of new technology skills in their workplaces and in preparation for entry-level careers in information technology; assess the acquisition of such skills
  • Communicate with and provide feedback to students in a timely manner
  • Certify students’ attendance in class and assign grades
  • Collaborate with coordinator in curriculum revisions based on student evaluations and outcomes, and advances in technology
  • Collaborate with project coordinator in developing new and updated courses

Salary Hourly commensurate with experience

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Teacher

The School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) of Lehman College is seeking a part-time teacher for its ONLINE CNA classes, skills Lab and clinical.

Duties

  • Teach online NYS-approved program covering anatomy and physiology, including PowerPoint presentations and testing as well as patient care skills (lab).
  • Develop PowerPoint presentations, maintain accurate attendance records and student progress reports.
  • Clinical practice assessment and evaluation.

Qualifications

R.N. and bachelor’s degree required. Prefer experience teaching online and skills lab, but will consider applicants if willing to learn. Experience required in teaching anatomy and physiology and patient care skills (lab).

Availability

Two evenings per week and Saturday hours (time is flexible) for anatomy & physiology, skills lab and weekdays for clinical rotation

The SCPS is seeking a Certified American Heart Association CPR/First Aid Instructor with experience in adult, child & infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation for online and in-person courses.

Availability

  • Current certification in CPR (AHA) and first aid
  • Experience with online instruction—Zoom and Google Classroom
  • One-year experience teaching CPR and first aid

  • Teach two sections of AHA CPR and first aid per month, online and partially in-person
  • Teach content according to requirements of the American Heart Association

NYS Registered Nurse Part-Time Hybrid Teaching Position

The SCPS is seeking NYS Registered Nurses to teach students training to become Certified Nurse Aides (CNA). Applicants must be a NYS Registered Nurse, knowledgeable about the Prometric Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) State Certification exam, and have experience teaching online. Familiarity with online teaching technologies such as Zoom for class discussions and online learning platforms such as Moodle or Google Classroom is preferred.

  • Developing virtual lesson plans in collaboration with the nurse supervisor for CNA class, prior to the start of the program
  • Using an online forum for class discussions, i.e., Zoom or Google Classroom
  • Teaching content according to course descriptions, syllabus, and learning outcomes
  • Teaching the theoretical knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology and the practical skills needed to pass the Prometric State Certification Examination
  • Developing and uploading course content, i.e., PowerPoint presentations in online classroom
  • Developing and administering virtual quizzes/tests
  • Teaching and demonstrating practical clinical skills using YouTube videos via Zoom and in-person clinical skills labs
  • Collaborating with online tutor/technical assistant to provide students with additional support.
  • Using a variety of effective instructional strategies and engaging activities to facilitate the highest level of student learning
  • Certifying attendance in class and submit to assigned personnel
  • Communicating with and providing feedback to students in a timely manner
  • Observing, managing, and reporting academic progress
  • Maintaining records for grades and assignments
  • Submitting end-of-program final grades
  • Attending weekly paid 1-hour program report meeting

Requirements

  • Active NYS Registered Nurse license
  • Passionate about teaching students starting their careers in healthcare
  • Experienced in online instruction via Zoom, Google Classroom, MS Teams or Moodle
  • At least 2 years' experience with healthcare-related teaching
  • Experience teaching adult populations
  • Fluent in Spanish and English (preferred)

Salary: Hourly: $45 per hour

Aquatics

Water Safety Instructors (WSIs)

Part-time, year-round evening, weekend and summer camp teacher shifts available for classes for adults and children in the Lehman College Olympic-size pool.

WSIs provide swimming skills and water safety instruction; enforce water safety rules and regulations; perform rescues and administer first aid as needed; take attendance and report student progress in our database in a timely manner; interact with parents/guardians; inspect pool area before class for maintenance, cleanliness or damages and report issue to pool management; maintain proper storage of pool equipment; and report incidents/accidents. Additional duty for summer camp: assess swimming ability of each camper prior to participation in aquatic activities.

Qualifications

Required: Current WSI certification; current yearly ARC First Aid and Professional Rescuer CPR/AED certifications. Preferred: High school diploma/GED/TASC; 2 or more years’ experience as swimming instructor
