Bronx Arts Education Network

Welcome

Welcome to the Bronx Arts Education Network. Through this network, Lehman College education faculty collaborate with K-12 schools interested in developing arts programs as well as arts professionals who are specifically interested in working with K-12 schools. One of the most effective ways to introduce students to the arts is by incorporating studies of performing and visual arts into the academic classroom through an approach called Aesthetic Education.

Maxine Greene Talks About Social Imagination to Lehman College Graduate Students

This is an excerpt of a conversation between Maxine Greene and a group of Lehman College English education graduate students along with Professors Amanda Gulla and John Mayher of Lehman College, Susan Ruskin-Mayher of Bank Street College, and Holly Fairbank of the Maxine Greene Center for Aesthetic Education and the Social Imagination. In this clip, Dr. Greene answers a student’s question about the importance of the arts in public schools by talking about the importance of respecting children’s experiences. She then goes on to define what she means by “social imagination”.
