Economics and Business's Students Receive 7th Consecutive Award |
In July 2021, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) awarded a 2020-2021 Superior Merit Award designation to the Lehman College Student Chapter of SHRM. The SHRM Student Chapter Merit Award program encourages the development of more effective student chapters and distinguishes outstanding activities and projects. The Superior Merit Award is the second-highest award that SHRM can bestow on a student chapter. To date, the Lehman College Student Chapter of SHRM received seven (7) successive SHRM Awards. Economics and Business Lecturer Dr. Shirley Bishop serves as the faculty advisor. |

Department Highlights
Highlights from the Department of Chemistry |
Vladislav Bodnar, who has been working with Prof. Burton-Pye on the synthesis of preyssler-type polyoxometalates for understanding nuclear waste compositions, received the John Paul Clay award for academic excellence from department of Chemistry at Lehman College and the Inorganic Chemistry Award from the division pf Inorganic Chemistry of the American chemical Society. He graduated from Lehman College in spring 2020 and is currently pursuing a PhD in radiochemistry at Michigan state University. James Mercado a former Con-Ed fellow, who work on Dr. Jitianu laboratory in an NSF project on thin coatings for corrosion protection graduated from Lehman College in spring 2020 and was accepted in the Chemistry PhD program at Purdue University. |

Highlights from the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Geospatial Sciences |
Ms. Raychell Velez presented her work on April 20, 2021 at Columbia University's International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI) seminar "Bringing Vulnerable Populations Into The Flood Risk Equation." Raychell and four other students (Chris Aime, Diana Calderon, Lauren Carey and Hadja Doumbouya) from the Department of Earth Environmental and Geospatial Sciences at Lehman College are helping Columbia University scientists from the Center for International Earth Science Information and Network (CIESIN) and IRI to develop high resolution data on flood vulnerability for artificial intelligence (AI) approaches. Students use a crowdsourcing data collection technique known as "turking" and will present some of their finding at the end of this month at the Lehman College Student Research Conference. The collaboration between Lehman, CIESIN, and IRI is supported in part by the NASA Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC) operated by CIESIN. |

The Lehman Student Chapter of SHRM (Society of Human Resource Management) won its second Superior Merit Award from SHRM. The chapter has won numerous awards from SHRM under the guidance of Economics and Business Lecturer Shirley Bishop. |

Highlights from the Department of Psychology |
Tricia Cavaliero graduated in spring 2020 earning three BA degrees, in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Psychology (where she where she earned top honors for her senior thesis) -- which contributed to her receiving a highly sought-after IBM internship as well as the job at AMEX.
