Learning Goals and Objectives
There are three primary goals and interrelated objectives that constitute the mission of the Department of Psychology at Lehman College. The first is to contribute to the undergraduate liberal arts education of all our students. Specifically, the intent of our curriculum is to instill an understanding of psychology as a science and a profession. Besides imparting specific knowledge in many areas of psychology, course offerings are designed to stimulate critical thinking and an openness to new ideas and perspectives.
The second major goal is to provide support and motivation for students interested in pursuing graduate studies in psychology. The department is especially committed to preparing disadvantaged and underrepresented minority students for graduate school in psychology.
Finally, the department supports and encourages its faculty to engage in research that will contribute significantly to the academic discipline of psychology. This objective has the additional benefit of providing undergraduate students with the opportunity to gain valuable research experience through working with faculty members.
