The Academic Information and Advisement Center also known as Academic Standards and Evaluation offers students help in many areas including:
- choosing classes to meet general education requirements and reviewing those choices when it is time to perform a graduation check
- providing information on academic policies that affect their grades and eligibility for either probation or graduate school
- granting permission to take "excess" credits and/or credits at another college
- helping to prepare appeals for (among other things) late or retroactive withdrawal from classes and appeals for readmission after being dropped for poor scholarship
- providing referrals to various academic programs and student services

Academic Advising Checklist
Here you will find checklists for academic advising matters and assorted paperwork that should be completed for each semester you are at Lehman. Check whether you're on track with your academic progress, long-range academic planning, and career preparation.
- Freshman (0-30 credits)
- Sophomore (31-60 credits)
- Junior (61-90 credits)
- Senior (91 or more credits)
- Transfer Students
- Second Degree Students
Freshman (0 - 30 credits)
Have you:
- Submitted your proof of immunization to the Student Health Center, T3 Building, Room 118?
- Submitted your residency papers (if needed) to the Admissions office, Shuster Hall, Room 161?
- Regularly attended your freshman seminar? (For full-time, day-time students)
- Obtained your placement in English Composition, math, and foreign language courses?
- Worked on a Long Range Academic Plan (LRAP) with a Sophomore Year Initiative (SYI) Academic Advisor or an Academic Advisor in the Academic Information and Advisement Center (Shuster Hall, Room 280)?
- If you are in a special program (Adult Degree Program/Professional Studies, Macaulay Honors College, Lehman Scholars Program, CUNY Baccalaureate Program, etc.), have you met with your program advisor to explore your general education requirements within the program?
- Passed or been exempted from the CUNY/ACT Reading and Writing Tests and the CUNY/ACT Compass MathTest?
- Considered possible majors and/or minors and researched their requirements?
- Visited Career Services to:
- examine the links between your courses and possible careers?
- explore possible internships?
- attend resume and cover letter writing workshops and interview skills workshops?
- review their job listings and get information on job fairs?
- Considered joining the Study Abroad Program, Carman Hall, Room 337 in a future semester?
- Explored the opportunities available in the Campus Life Office (student government, clubs, and recreational activities) and/or athletics in the Apex?
Other questions to consider:
- Are you doing well in your classes? Have you explored any opportunities to expand your studies (for example, scholarships and/or specialized programs related to your major or minor)?
- Are you doing poorly in your classes? You may be able to find help at one or more of the following offices: Instructional Support Services Program/Tutoring; Student Health Center; Counseling Center; support services offices in Student Affairs.
- If you are receiving financial aid, have you seen a Financial Aid Counselor in Shuster Hall, Room 136?
Sophomore (31 - 60 credits)
Have you:
- Visited an Academic Advisor in the Academic Information and Advisement Center (Shuster Hall, Room 280) to verify that you have completed or are completing all of your general education requirements?
- If you are in a special program (Adult Degree Program/Professional Studies, Macaulay Honors College, Lehman Scholars Program, CUNY Baccalaureate Program, etc.), have you seen your program advisor to verify that you have completed or are completing all of your general education requirements in that program?
- If you are in a special program (Adult Degree Program/Professional Studies, Macaulay Honors College, Lehman Scholars Program, CUNY Baccalaureate Program, etc.), have you seen your program advisor to verify that you have completed or are completing all of your general education requirements in that program?

Transfer Students
Have you:

- Submitted your residency papers (if needed) to the Admissions office, Shuster Hall, Room 161?
- Met with a faculty advisor in the major(s) and minor(s) that interest you and filed your Declaration of Academic Plan and Sub-Plan form in the Registrar’s Office, Shuster Hall, Room 106?
- Visited an Academic Advisor in the Academic Information and Advisement Center (Shuster Hall, Room 280) or your program advisor (Adult Degree Program/Professional Studies, Macaulay Honors College, Lehman Scholars Program, CUNY Baccalaureate Program, etc.) to find out how your transfer credits fit into your general education requirements?
- Visited faculty advisors to find out how your transfer credits will fit into your major (and minor, if needed) requirements?
- Returned your Transfer Credit Evaluation form (if needed) to the Admissions Office in Shuster Hall, Room 161?
Other questions to consider:
- Are you doing well in your classes? Have you explored any opportunities to expand your studies (for example, scholarships; study abroad; specialized programs related to your major or minor)?

- If you are receiving financial aid, have you seen a Financial Aid Counselor in Shuster Hall, Room 136?
Second Degree Students
Have you:
- Submitted all the paperwork required to complete your admission as explained by the Lehman Admissions Office in Shuster Hall, Room 161?

- Submitted your residency papers (if needed) to the Admissions Office, Shuster Hall, Room 161?
- Met with a faculty advisor in the program that interests you and received a contract outlining all the major courses you must pass in order to receive your degree?
- Consulted the English Composition Office, Carman Hall, Room 336, regarding the English Composition requirement? (for students who did not earn their first bachelor’s degrees within the USA)
- Had a copy of your contract signed in Academic Information and Advisement Center, Shuster Hall, Room 280 and filed that copy in the Registrar’s Office (Shuster Hall, Room 106)?
- Returned your Transfer Credit Evaluation form (if needed) to the Admissions Office in Shuster Hall, Room 161?
- Visited Career Services to:
- explore possible internships?
