DESCRIPTION:Miguel Fern&amp;aacute;ndez Ord&amp;oacute;&amp;ntilde;ez, past Governor of the Bank of Spain, joins Professor Graulau from Political Science in a conversation on Adam Smith, Monetary Reform and the Politics of Banking. Miguel Fern&amp;aacute;ndez Ord&amp;oacute;&amp;ntilde;ez was Governor of the Central Bank of Spain and member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank during 2006-2012. He served as Secretary of State for the Economy, Trade, and Tax and Budget Revenue of the Government of Spain, as well as Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund. In 1992, Fern&amp;aacute;ndez Ord&amp;oacute;&amp;ntilde;ez was appointed President of the Antitrust Court of Spain. An advocate of radical reform to European monetary and banking systems, Fern&amp;aacute;ndez Ord&amp;oacute;&amp;ntilde;ez has written numerous articles on central bank digital currencies and provided testimony on the &quot;digital Euro&quot; to the European Parliament. His latest book, Adi&amp;oacute;s a los bancos: una visi&amp;oacute;n distinta del dinero y la banca (2020), is dedicated to the role and function of public digital money in monetary and banking reform. He currently teaches seminars on Monetary Policy and Financial Regulation at International European University. Political Economy Conversations focus on relevant topics in theory, history, practice, and teaching of political economy.
