Draft
30 August 2004

OS: Windows XP
Client: Netscape 7.1

Start the process of setting up a new email account by making the following selections::

Start > All Programs > Netscape 7.1 > Mail and Newsgroups > Edit > Mail and Newsgroup Account Settings

(Note: If you already have a Netscape identity, the Netscape term for the collection of settings associated with an email account,
to process email on the old alpha (now omega) server, do not attempt to modify this setup to
use the new server.  Start the email account setup wizard to create a new identity.  If you have not used Netscape, the account wizard may
start up after selecting Mail and Newsgroups. )

You should see a set of folder collections in the left panel of the setup wizard window - one for each existing account (identity)
and a folder collection named Local Folders.

Click on Add Account button.  The Add Account Wizard will start up

(Note: If you have not setup any accounts in Netscape, the Account Wizard will start up when you start Netscape.)

Select Email Account as the type of account you want to setup if it is not already selected

On Identity sheet - enter name which you want to appear at the top of your memos

On Identity sheet -enter a fully-qualified email address (e.g. firstname.lastname@lehman.cuny.edu)

Note that this address need not match your actual username on the server.  You can use an alias
here.  In this way your outgoing mail will appear to be coming from the alias.

Adding or modifying SMTP (outgoing server)

Select Outgoing Server (Under Local Folders in scrolling frame on left of Account Settings page)

(The outgoing server settings sheet will show the default SMTP server if it exists. To change this setting, replace the settings with the following. To keep these settings and add a second SMTP server, select advanced > add.) Enter ocssmtp.cuny.edu as server name and click on Use Username and Password (equivalent of SMTP authentication in other clients)

Enter your full OCS username in the User Name textbox (i.e. firstname.lastname@lehman.cuny.edu)

You may be able to use a single SMTP server (default) for all accounts so there will generally be no need
to go to advanced to add additional SMTP servers).  (Standard ports: pop 110;  IMAP: 143)  If you need or want to add additional SMTP servers,
click on Advanced on the Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings panel and then Add.

You can associate particular SMTP servers with particular accounts or identifies by selecting the identify in the left
frame and clicking on Advanced.

Click on server settings under a particular identity to see the location of local data associated with identity.
