Configuring Netscape 7.1 for OCS

Client: Netscape 7.1
Start the process of setting up a new email account by making the
following selections::
Start > All
Programs > Netscape 7.1 > Mail and Newsgroups > Edit > Mail
and Newsgroup Account Settings
(Note: If you already have a Netscape identity, the Netscape term
for the collection of settings associated with an email account,
to process email on the old alpha (now omega) server, do not
attempt to modify this setup to
use the new server. Start the email account setup wizard to
create a new identity. If you have not used Netscape, the account
wizard may
start up after selecting Mail and Newsgroups. )
You should see a set of folder collections in the left panel of the
setup wizard window - one for each existing account (identity)
and a folder collection named Local
Folders.
Click on Add Account
button. The Add Account Wizard
will start up
(Note: If you have not setup any accounts in Netscape, the Account
Wizard will start up when you start Netscape.)
Select Email Account as the
type of account you want to setup if it is not already selected
Select Next
On Identity sheet - enter name which you want to appear at
the top of your memos
On Identity sheet -enter a fully-qualified email address (e.g.
firstname.lastname@lehman.cuny.edu)
Note that this address need not match
your actual username on the server. You can use an alias
here. In this way your outgoing mail will appear to be coming
from the alias.
Select Next
On the Server Information sheet - select IMAP as the server type
On the Server Information sheet - Enter incoming server name: ocsimap.cuny.edu
Note that the SMTP server from an
existing setup will be used if it exists. You may need to modify
this later.
In Advanced Settings you can associate a different SMTP server with
each of your accounts. See below.
Select Next
Enter your OCS username (must
be OCS
username with hostname, e.g. firstname.lastname@lehman.cuny.edu)
Select Next
On Account name page, make up a
name for the account. This will be used to name the folder collections.
The suggested name is the email address which is fine.
Select Next
Review settings and select Finish
Adding or modifying SMTP (outgoing server)
Select Outgoing Server (Under Local
Folders in scrolling frame on left of Account Settings page)
(The outgoing server settings sheet will show the default SMTP server if
it exists. To change this setting, replace the settings with the following.
To keep these settings and add a second SMTP server, select advanced >
add.)
Enter
ocssmtp.cuny.edu as server name and click on Use Username and Password
(equivalent of SMTP authentication in other clients)
Enter your full OCS username in the User Name textbox (i.e.
firstname.lastname@lehman.cuny.edu)
You may be able
to use a single SMTP server (default) for all accounts so there will
generally be
no need
to go to advanced to add additional SMTP servers). (Standard
ports: pop 110; IMAP: 143) If you need or want to add
additional SMTP servers,
click on Advanced on the Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings panel and then
Add.
You can associate particular SMTP servers with particular accounts or
identifies by selecting the identify in the left
frame and clicking on Advanced.
Click on server settings under a particular
identity to see the location of local data associated with identity.
