Lehman staff and faculty receive three separate and distinct computer accounts shortly after they begin their employment at the College:

· Lehman Login

· CUNY Portal/Blackboard

· CUNYfirst

Each account is composed of an identifier unique to the owner, referred to as a userid or username, and a password that secures access to the account. 

The automatic provisioning of these accounts is contingent upon having an active appointment as a Lehman employee in CUNYfirst.  (Research Foundation staff and Graduate Teaching Fellows should refer to the notes at the end of this document.)

Lehman Login

Username Format: firstname.lastname

Password Format: FLnnnnnn

Your Lehman username is usually composed of firstname and lastname separated by a period (firstname.lastname) with all special characters such as spaces, apostrophes and hyphens removed.  For example, Barbara Smith’s username is likely to be barbara.smith. Your Lehman username is not case-sensitive. In some cases a username may have a numeric suffix (e.g. firstname.lastname2) if a staff member with the same name already exists in the system. If someone with Barbara’s name is already in the system, her username might be barbara.smith1.

Your username will be found in your appointment letter from HR. (?)

The password on a new account is composed of first initial in UPPER CASE, followed by last initial in UPPER CASE, followed by the first six digits of your social security number.

Your Lehman username provides access to many Lehman online services including Exchange email, the wireless network, and Lehman Connect, a campus portal restricted to the Lehman community.

Accessing Exchange Email with your Lehman Login

You login to Lehman email with your Lehman username and associated password by selecting Faculty/Staff Email from the Login menu on the Lehman Home page or by going directly to Exchange webmail at http://mail.lehman.edu.

Your Lehman email address is formed from your username followed by “@lehman.cuny.edu.” For example, Barbara Smith’s email address would be barbara.smith@lehman.cuny.edu.

CUNYCard

Your Lehman College photo id card (CUNYCard) controls access to various locations on campus including the Information Technology Center and the Library, and also is required to borrow equipment from Media Services.  For this process to work, it is important that (1) you obtain your photo id card as soon as possible; and (2) that the 16-digit CUNYCard number embossed on lower left edge of the card be associated with your CUNYfirst EMPID (see below).

The CUNY Portal

All faculty and staff members at CUNY receive a CUNY Portal userid and password. Services available through the CUNY Portal include Blackboard for online, hybrid and web-enhanced classes.  Therefore, it is imperative that access to the Portal be in place by the time your classes start.

To gain access to the Portal, you must first register. Visit the CUNY website at http://www.cuny.edu click on the Log-in link on the right and then on Register for a new account directly above the Username and Password text boxes. You will be prompted to enter your name, social security number and date of birth.  (You can also reach the CUNY Portal by selecting CUNY Portal Login from the Login menu on the Lehman Home Page.)

The typical format of a suggested CUNY Portal userid is first initial followed by last name and one or more random digits. For example, Barbara Smith’s portal userid might look like bsmith23. You will also create a Portal password for yourself during the registration process. If you forget your username and/or password, you can request a reset by selecting Account and Password Reset on the Portal login page.

CUNY Portal userids are CUNY-wide. If you registered on the CUNY Portal at another CUNY campus, you will continue to use the same userid and password at Lehman.

Accessing Blackboard with your CUNY

After logging in to the CUNY Portal, select Blackboard from the Applications module on the left.  Upon accessing Blackboard, the classes you are teaching should be listed under “Courses you are teaching” on the right of the page.  If you do not see your classes, you may not have been assigned as the instructor by the Registrar.  Please contact your department to verify that it supplied the Registrar with your CUNYfirst EMPLID (see below) and the classes you are teaching.

CUNYfirst

CUNYfirst is CUNY’s administrative services system. To use CUNYfirst you must activate or “claim” your CUNYfirst account by visiting https://home.cunyfirst.cuny.edu and selecting the New User link. (You can also reach CUNYfirst by selecting CUNYfirst Login from the Login menu on the Lehman Home Page.)

During the activation process you will be prompted to enter your name, date of birth, and the last four digits of your social security number, and to select and answer challenge questions that will be used to recover a forgotten password.

At the completion of the activation process you will have a CUNYfirst userid composed of your first name and last name separated by a period and followed by a two digit number, and a password that you create. You will also receive an eight digit ID number referred to as an EMPLID. The last two digits of the EMPLID are the two digits at the end of your CUNYfirst userid. For example, Barbara Smith’s CUNYfirst userid might look like Barbara.Smith22 and her EMPLID might be 10843422.

Once you claim your account, you can login to CUNYfirst at https://home.cunyfirst.cuny.edu to access services such as the Faculty Center in order to view your class schedule, verify student attendance and enter grades.

If you find that you do not have access to all the CUNYfirst features that you need for your work, you may need to submit a CUNYfirst Security Access Form available on Lehman Connect to have your profile modified for the most common functions. If you activated your CUNYfirst userid at another CUNY, you will continue to use the same userid, password and EMPLID at Lehman.

A note for Graduate Teaching Fellows

Graduate Teaching Fellows are employees of the Graduate Center.  In order to be entered in CUNYfirst with a Lehman affiliation, GTFs must complete a Personal Data Form available on the Human Resources website (http://www.lehman.edu/human-resources/forms.php#forms).  HR will then enter the GTF as a “Person of Interest” (POI) in CUNYfirst.  This is essential in order to obtain a Lehman Login and access to the Lehman services that it provides.  GTFs should also verify access to the Faculty Center on CUNYfirst as soon as possible.

GTFs should already be in the CUNY Portal based on their Graduate Center affiliation.

A note for Research Foundation Staff

Research Foundation staff are in the CUNY Portal. 

However, they are not automatically entered in CUNYfirst.  If you job responsibilities require access to CUNYfirst, you will need to complete a Personal Data Form available on the HR website (http://www.lehman.edu/human-resources/forms.php#forms).  HR will then enter the RF employee as a “Person of Interest” (POI) in CUNYfirst.  You will also need to complete a CUNYfirst Security Access form to obtain the necessary access. 

Entry into CUNYfirst will also trigger the creation of a Lehman Login with email. 

If a RF staff member will not be in CUNYfirst, they should complete the following form in order to obtain a Lehman Login:

Your CUNYCard should be associated with your six digit RF employee number.

The default password on RF Lehman logins is composed of first initial in UPPER CASE, followed by last initial in UPPER CASE, followed by the six digit Research Foundation employee number.
