Workshops, Institutes & Initiatives

Faculty have the ability to participate in several workshops throughout the year. Below is a series of on-going workshops along with the current schedule and offerings.

  • Teaching & Learning Instructional Series (Fall 2023): The Teaching and Learning Instructional Series offers an opportunity to learn about instructional technology and innovative teaching and learning. These sessions offer an opportunity to engage in a dialogue about teaching and share best practices (whether you have been teaching for years or just getting started). Each session is 60 minutes followed by a 30-minute Q&A. No matter whether you teach in-person or online, these sessions will offer ideas for engaging and supporting student learning in any instructional modality. Each session is offered HyFlex (you can join online or in-person (Carman 249).
  • Preparation for Teaching Online: A Foundational Workshop for CUNY Faculty: We invite you to participate in a two-week, asynchronous, instructor-facilitated workshop, offered several times a year. The workshop models effective design and facilitation skills, and addresses pedagogical approaches to teaching online and hybrid, as well as organization and management of an online class, providing first-hand experience in online learning. You will need your supervisor's (chair's) approval before you register and be scheduled to teach a total of two online or hybrid courses within two semesters following the workshop. Faculty who successfully complete the workshop are eligible for payment based on 10 hours at their NTA rate (up to $550 total).
  • Course Design Institute (CDI).: The course design institute is a structured path for Lehman faculty to develop, revise and build model courses. The course is meant to be an exemplary  course shell and may be used by the developing faculty, as well as other faculty within the department. Faculty will need to complete a series of steps over the course of 12 weeks to revise and build the course, dedicating 2 to 4 hours weekly to complete the steps. With the support of instructional designers, faculty will have the support necessary to design and revise to meet OSCQR standards. As part of the process, courses will be designed and reviewed, the OSCQR rubric . Please Note: Courses will need to be approved by the faculty Chair before the Office of Online Education can move forward with the application.
  • Enhancing Your (Online or Hybrid) Course through the Use of Open Educational Resources (OER) Workshop: We invite you to participate in a two-week, asynchronous, instructor-facilitated workshop. You will learn how to refresh and renew your course using OER and possibly replace a textbook. You will need your supervisor's (chair's) approval before you register and be scheduled to teach an online or a hybrid course that you plan to enhance with OER. Faculty who successfully complete the workshop are eligible for payment based on 10 hours at their NTA rate (up to $550 total).
  • Accessibility and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Workshop for CUNY Faculty: We invite you to join this two-week, fully online, asynchronous, instructor-facilitated workshop. The workshop provides an in-depth introduction to accessibility and UDL for online and hybrid teaching. This workshop uses a faculty development approach, which focuses on exploring and evaluating essential concepts and resources. Faculty also have an opportunity to create accessible documents and multimedia, share ideas and observations with colleagues, and receive feedback from workshop facilitators.

The Office of Online Education has offered several webinars and will continue to do so. The information contained in this section displays previously held webinars, along with upcoming webinars. Those webinars that have been held in the past will be indicated as such.

  • Teaching and Learning Webinar Series.: Throughout the academic year, the Office of Online Education offers monthly, hour-long, lunchtime webinars for faculty on essential topics of innovative teaching (in-person and online). Each webinar consists of three parts: the pedagogical “Why”, the practical “How”, and the faculty experience. Faculty share their experience and expertise on innovative teaching and learning and best practices in pedagogy to support our students. Attendees have time during the Q&A at the end of each webinar to comment, share their views, and ask questions of all webinar presenters.
