Q: Will I have to join the Peace Corps if I complete the Peace Corps Prep Program?
A: You will not have to join the Peace Corps. While earning the Peace Corps Prep Certificate will expedite your process if you ever do decide to be a Peace Corps Volunteer, you may also just want to earn the certificate for your own professional resume and to broaden your opportunities.
Q: My major doesn’t align with any of the six sectors. How do I choose?
A: Your major does not have to align with a sector. When selecting a sector consider that you must have three courses and fifty hours of community engagement related to that sector. The Peace Corps Prep Coordinator, using your resume and transcript, can help you during this process. Our office can also help in finding opportunities to meet your community service requirement.
Q: If I am not a US citizen, can I still participate in the Peace Corps Prep program?
A: While you cannot serve as a Peace Corps volunteer, all students regardless of their citizenship may earn their Peace Corps Prep Certificate. In earning the certificate you are verifying your leadership and intercultural skills for future endeavors.
Q: Are the workshops mandatory?
A: The workshops are not mandatory but they are such a great addition to your Peace Corps Prep experience or anyone interested in living/traveling abroad. The workshops were created based on students’ feedback and interests including speaking with former Peace Corps volunteers, completing the Peace Corps application, and learning how to share our story.
