Healthcare Technicians: CPR, First Aid, EKG, Phlebotomy

Clinical content courses are held partially in-person.

Patient Care Technician

The Patient Care Technician (PCT/PCA)/ Nurse Technician program trains students for positions as advanced nursing assistants under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or doctor. They monitor patients’ health conditions; maintain records; take vital signs; administer EKGs; collect blood and urine samples; and assist patients with bathing, toileting, dressing and eating, transferring and exercises. Upon successful completion of the program, students may take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certification exam.

To receive a Patient Care Technician Certificate you must successfully complete the following:

High School Diploma/GED/TASC
Current C.N.A License
Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Electrocardiography (EKG 100/ 10 sessions / 30 hours)**
Phlebotomy I (PLB 101 / 8 sessions / 24 hours)**
Phlebotomy II (PLB 102 / 17 sessions / 50 hours) **

**PLEASE NOTE: These courses must be completed at Lehman College Continuing Education department to receive PCT program certificate. EKG Technician

The electrocardiography technician prepares patient  for and administers the EKG. EKG techncians also may assist with Holter monitor and stress testing. Positions are available in a great variety of health care settings as well as labs. Upon successful; completion of the course, you are eligible to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certification exam.

To receive a EKG Technician Program Certificate you must successfully complete the following:

High School Diploma/GED/TASC
CPR: Basic Life Support (BLS) with AED (CPR 100 / 1 session / 6 hours)**
Electrocardiography (EKG 100 / 10 sessions / 30 hours)**

Phlebotomy Technician

Phlebotomy technicians draw blood samples for diagnosis and treatment. They also prepare these samples and maintain equipment and supplies. Positions are available in many inpatient and outpatient health care facilities as well as labs. After successful  completion of the course, you are eligible to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certification exam.

To receive a Phlebotomy Technician Program Certificate you must successfully complete the following:

High School Diploma/GED/TASC
CPR: Basic Life Support (BLS) with AED (CPR 100 / 1 session / 6 hours)**
Phlebotomy I (PLB 101 / 8 sessions / 24 hours)**
Phlebotomy II (PLB 102 / 17 sessions / 50 hours) **

CPR: BLS (Basic Life Support) with AED for Health Care Providers

This course meets the requirements for National Certification for CPR from the American Heart Association (AHA). Students learn how to respond to emergencies involving infants, children and adults. They are introduced to lifesaving techniques, rescue breathing, one- and two-person cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and abdominal thrusts. Textbook must be brought to class.

CPR 100 / 1 session / 6 hours

First Aid (AHA Certification)

This course covers the theory and practical skills of the standard first aid course as prescribed by the American Heart Association. Included are the first aid basics, medical and injury emergencies.

MAS17 / 1 session / 3 hours
