Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Lehman College's Nursing Assistant Certificate is a New York State Education Department approved training for those seeking employment as CNAs in hospitals, nursing homes, hospices and home health agencies. CNAs work directly with patients providing quality patient care. Duties include: help with dressing; bathing; feeding; toileting; taking vital signs; catheter care; assisting with ambulation; range of motion exercises; and moving patients to bed and from bed to wheelchair. Students must successfully complete the course and clinical to be eligible to take the New York State credentialing examination.

Program includes

Total Hours: 125 hours. Anatomy and Physiology (50 hours), Fundamentals of Patient Care (50 hours), Nursing Home Clinical Rotation (30 hours). (Prerequisites: must attend a career session / orientation- Required prior to clinical CPR100: CPR for Health Care Providers or current national certification from the American Heart Association (AHA.) Completed CNA Medical exam documentation is due at the 1st class meeting. *NOTE: $115 required a testing fee to be paid in class; uniform and textbook fee not included.

Prerequisite or corequisite or proof of current completion: CPR100: CPR Basic Life Support (BLS) with AED for Health Care Providers

Financial Assistance

The program above is qualified for Workforce1 ITG Vouchers. Individual Training Grant (ITG) vouchers are issued by Workforce1 Career Centers and provide funding for occupational skills training that leads to employment in New York City high-demand occupations.
