As Lehman’s campus and community grow, so must its financial resources. Support for the Campaign for Lehman College will ensure the success of the College’s mission to offer an excellent liberal arts and sciences education to promising and motivated students in the Bronx. It will allow Lehman to continue meeting the changing needs of our students, our faculty, our campus, and our community while serving as a cultural and economic anchor in the region.

Ways to Give

You may make a gift to Lehman College through the Lehman College Foundation, a separate 501(c)3 organization whose purpose is to raise, manage and distribute funds to support the mission of Lehman College. You may also make gifts to the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts and the Lehman Art Gallery, both of which are separate 501c organizations.

Annual Fund

Your support for the Campaign for Lehman College will help the College build a permanent endowment. Unrestricted gifts to the Annual Fund provide direct support that will be of greatest benefit to students, faculty, and our campus: increasing scholarship and faculty funding, enhancing programs and facilities, and addressing critical needs as they arise.

The Division of Institutional Advancement is responsible for the overall development of alumni and fundraising initiatives, arts and cultural programming, public relations, marketing, and communications at Lehman College. The Division's offices and departments are responsible for an extraordinary range of activities, with the goal of building strong support and lasting relationships with alumni, donors, foundations, corporations, community members, lawmakers, and the media.

Working to secure private and public financial resources, the Division—through the Lehman College Foundation—supports the annual fund, student scholarships, the College’s endowment, special projects, institutional and academic programs, and the $40 million capital campaign initiative. The following office all housed under the Division’s umbrella:

Lehman College Foundation

The Mission of the Lehman College Foundation is to raise, invest and distribute private funds for scholarships, faculty support and other educational needs of Lehman College. It raises funds through a variety of programs, including corporate and matching grants, alumni appeals, endowed scholarships, and planned giving. The Foundation is a not-for-profit educational foundation chartered by the Department of Education of the State of New York and recognized as a federally tax-exempt organization. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees that includes community, business and education leaders, as well as alumni of the College, and is managed by an executive director.

As with many public colleges and universities, the Foundation was established in to ensure that state-budgeted funds are maintained separately from private and corporate contributions. With the gifts and grants it receives, the Foundation awards and scholarships and fellowships, and supports research and educational activities in fields of intellectual inquiry that are in keeping with the College's educational objectives.

The Lehman College Foundation accepts both unrestricted and restricted gifts that may be designated for specific use by Lehman College. A donor who wishes to designate a contribution for scholarships, academic departments, or other appropriate uses should notify the Foundation when making the contribution. For more detailed information please feel free to contact Bernd Brecher, Executive Director of the Lehman College Foundation, at bernd.brecher@lehman.cuny.edu or 718-960-8456. You may also write to the Lehman College Foundation at 250 Bedford Park Blvd. West, Bronx, NY 10468.

Office of Development

The Office of Development is responsible for raising private dollars from alumni and friends of the College, as well as corporations and foundations. We achieve this through initiatives such as the annual fund campaign’s direct mail and phone-a-thon programs; the planned giving program for bequests, charitable trusts, insurance, and gift annuities; and special events such as the Lehman Gala and scholarship events. The Office of Development is also responsible for the $40 million Lehman College Comprehensive/Capital Campaign.

Strategically, development initiatives include increasing alumni involvement and building mutually beneficial alliances with individuals, corporations, foundations, and other organizations. The Office has two goals: the first is to increase the overall percentage of alumni who give to Lehman. The second is to identify those individuals, corporations and foundations that can respond to a broad range of the College’s needs. Contributions support Lehman Scholarships and fellowships; faculty and academic departments; research and graduate programs; capital and equipment needs; and community outreach through the College’s various Centers such as the Performing Art Center, Gallery, Lectures, and theatre productions.

The Office of Development works with the Lehman College Foundation which, on behalf of the College, manages most private gifts donated, ensuring that they are utilized for the purpose donated, and not co-mingled with State or other government funds.

Lehman College Alumni Association

The Office of Government and External Relations
