The Stability Index Mapping (SINMAP) Calculator for Agroforestry Treatment https://imtiaz-bronx.github.io/shawn_soil_lc/ was designed by undergraduate EEGS students Mr. Imtiaz Mahmud and Mr. Shawn Blackman in summer 2026 as a part of summer research work for Nuru Ethiopia, non-profit organization (operated by Nuru International) as a locally-led nonprofit organization based in Arba Minch within the South Ethiopia Regional State to build rural resilience and lift vulnerable communities out of extreme poverty. Project was supervised by Dr. Yuri Gorokhovich and coordinated by Mr. Matt Lineal, Chief Implementation Officer, Nuru.
This calculator is designed to evaluate slope stability using SINMAP algorithm (see: https://hydrology.usu.edu/dtarb/gishydro99/sinmap/sinmap.pdf)  that includes root cohesion parameter Cr (N/m2) for selected plant species. In this calculator Cr can be modified according to chosen plant species and user will be able to calculate a SI (Stability Index), ranked as following:
