Drawing on examples from civic life, social movements, and higher education, this interactive roundtable will help faculty and staff identify their unique roles, align daily actions with core values, and navigate challenging conversations. The group will also explore practical ways to build a stronger campus community, both inside and outside the classroom, grounded in shared values that also honor diverse perspectives and contributions.

About Deepa Iyer:
Deepa Iyer is a South Asian American writer, lawyer, and strategist with over twenty-five years of experience in the nonprofit sector. Deepa is the creator of the Social Change Ecosystem framework which is widely used as a resource to identify roles we can play in advancing justice and equity. Deepa’s work at the Building Movement Project, a national nonprofit organization, includes a program called Solidarity Is that provides trainings and narratives to build deep and lasting multiracial solidarity. Deepa teaches at Georgetown University where she is also a Visiting Practitioner at the Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership.
Deepa's first book about the post 9/11 climate, We Too Sing America: South Asian, Arab, Muslim and Sikh Immigrants Shape Our Multiracial Future, received a 2016 American Book Award. She is also the author of Social Change Now: A Guide for Connection and Reflection and a children’s picture book called We Are The Builders! Deepa regularly writes and speaks about belonging, solidarity and ecosystems and provides trainings and workshops for nonprofit professionals, grassroots organizers, young people, academic staff, social workers, and more. Deepa has received fellowships from Open Society Foundations and the Social Change Initiative, and in 2019, she received an honorary doctoral degree from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
