Costa Rican Ambassador to the UN Maritza Chan Valverde comes to Lehman College to mark the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). That March meeting highlighted key priorities around gender equity, economic justice and community well-being. But what do these conversations look like beyond policy spaces? How do they take shape in our communities, on our campuses, and in everyday life?
In addition to Ambassador Chan Vaverde, Lehman will also welcome City Council Member Amanda Farias (Chair of the Committee on Women and Gender Equality), and Bertrade Ngo-Ngijol Banoum (Associate Professor of Africana Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies at Lehman College). The discussion will be doderated by Teresita Levy, Associate Provost for Experiential Learning and Executive Director for Industry Partnerships at Lehman College,
Together, they will discuss how gender equity priorities are taking shape in tangible, community-driven ways, connecting global ideas to action in our neighborhoods and on our campuses.
Topics include:
- What gender equity looks like in practice
- Where gaps still exist and how communities are responding
- How students can engage with these issues in meaningful ways and help carry the CSW’s mission forward
