#LehmanGivingTuesday Aims to Bolster Critical Student Resources

For the fifth year in a row, Lehman College will mark #GivingTuesday, an international day of giving held the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, with a 24-hour fundraising challenge to support crucial student programs.

The College is aiming to surpass the record $96,493 it raised last year with its #LehmanGivingTuesday campaign, which it used to address student needs exacerbated by the pandemic. The donations helped provide emergency grants, stock a virtual food pantry, and support scholarships.

This year, with many Lehman students and the greater Bronx community still reeling from the impact of COVID-19, the College once again will be directing funds to those areas.

#LehmanGivingTuesday provides an opportunity for the community to band together in helping students meet their most basic needs and investing in the College’s continued growth,” said Lehman College President Fernando Delgado.

Moreover, supporters don’t have to wait until the day of #GivingTuesday, Nov. 30, to chip in; the #LehmanGivingTuesday website is live and accepting donations. And, with a gift of $50 or more, donors can score two free tickets to a Nov. 27 concert by Latin music icon José Feliciano at the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts, while supplies last. The #LehmanGivingTuesday campaign will remain open through Dec. 31.

Started by the 92nd Street Y in partnership with the United Nations Foundation, #GivingTuesday builds on the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping frenzy to encourage generosity, small-scale philanthropy, and giving back to good causes. CUNY supports the day with its own hashtag, #CUNYTuesday that encourages donors to support its 25 colleges.

This year’s  #LehmanGivingTuesday campaign features a series of videos in which Lehman students describe how the College’s resources have helped them thrive and realize their educational goals—whether through scholarships, learning opportunities, leadership development, or emergency microgrants.

“No one speaks to the transformative power of a Lehman education better than our students,” said Robert Pagan, Lehman’s director of Alumni Engagement and Annual Fund, who is co-coordinating the effort. You can follow their stories on Lehman’s Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook accounts.
