Assistant Professor of Finance, Information Systems, and Economics Hsien-Tseng Wang is the recipient of a 2025 Interdisciplinary Research Grant, securing $60K as lead PI for his project “Convergent Load Management: Optimizing CUNY’s Multi-Energy Systems.” Along with co-PI Professor Theodore Brown of Queens College, Wang will draw from entities across the University to build a system employing AI and energy analytics to cut electricity costs, reduce carbon emissions, and serve as a model for other institutions to replicate.

“This grant empowers us to give students hands-on experience with cutting-edge AI and energy analytics while helping CUNY save money and reduce its carbon footprint,” Wang said.

Under this project, students will solve real energy challenges by building forecasting and decision-support tools and using advanced planning methods. Their work could directly improve campus operations, sustainability, and cost savings.

“Our students will play a real role in building a smarter, greener future for the university,” Wang added.
