Lehman College is advancing as an institution known nationally for cultivating significant research activity and educational opportunity. The Carnegie Foundation and American Council on Education named the College to new categories in its recent institutional classifications : Research Colleges and Universities (RCU) and  Opportunity Colleges and Universities.

"The growth in Lehman's public stature as a center of innovation in fields like healthcare, education, physics, biological sciences, and materials science—reflected in the RCU designation—positions us to become a driver of transformative change with global impact," said Lehman's president, Fernando Delgado.

The RCU category, which includes institutions with at least $2.5 million in research and development funding per year, increases visibility for smaller institutions with significant, growing research activity.

As one of Carnegie's “Opportunity Colleges and Universities,” Lehman is a model institution that exemplifies how campuses can foster student success.

"This recognition signals that we are succeeding in our mission to make a quality college education accessible and prepare students to flourish after they graduate," Delgado said.

The College has developed a range of successful strategies to promote academic achievement, degree completion, and career readiness, several of which have been nationally recognized and replicated.
