A group of 28 dedicated student leaders traveled to Albany today for an impactful lobbying session. Students met with Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, Senator Robert Jackson, Assemblyman George Alvarez and Assemblywoman Yudelka Tapia, sharing personal stories that elevated key priorities for the Lehman College community—including increased funding for student clubs, expanded food and basic needs resources, an expansion of Science Hall, and additional internship opportunities.

“Being able to share my story—not just as a Lehman student, but as someone who represents so many Bronx families balancing school, work, caregiving, and community leadership—was incredibly emotional,” said Nichelle Hemphill. “What stood out most was how genuinely they listened. It reminded me that our voices matter. Today made me feel seen, valued, and even more committed to advocating for the resources our campus and community deserve.

The visit, which was coordinated by Jasmin Clavasquin and sponsored by the President's Office and the Office of Campus Life, provided students with a valuable opportunity to engage directly in the civic process, share their lived experiences, and advocate for meaningful investments that support student success.
