Lehman College Student Kilhah St. Fort Selected as a 2026–2027 Schwarzman Scholar
January 15, 2026
THE BRONX, NY—JANUARY 15, 2026 — It’s a graduation present like no other – Lehman College Senior Kilhah St. Fort will spend a full year in China earning a master’s degree in global affairs as a 2026–2027 Schwarzman Scholar, joining an elite cohort of 150 students from around the world. A Macaulay Honors College and CUNY Baccalaureate student, St. Fort is also a Jeannette K. Watson Fellow and the second Lehman student to earn this prestigious scholarship.
“We would like to congratulate Kilhah St. Fort on this impressive accomplishment,” said Fernando Delgado, Lehman College President. “Her success serves as an example of what’s possible when students have access to the guidance and community that help them pursue their ambitions and achieve their full potential.”
St. Fort will travel to Beijing, China, to study at Tsinghua University.
"I’m honored to be a Schwarzman Scholar and to represent my Lehman community on a global stage," said Kilhah St. Fort. "This opportunity will allow me to grow as a leader, engage with new ideas and perspectives, and amplify voices that have historically been excluded. I’m excited to learn from my cohort, explore a new culture and bring these experiences back to my community."
Her success reflects the support and mentorship provided by Lehman staff, which helps students navigate highly competitive opportunities and take full advantage of transformative programs like the Schwarzman Scholars.
“Kilhah’s achievement as a Schwarzman Scholar reflects the intentional advising model we’ve built within the Office of Prestigious Awards (OPA), which is designed to develop scholars through high-impact mentorship and prepare Lehman students to pursue global leadership with confidence,” said Moya Bedward, OPA director. “Her success demonstrates the strength of our national competitiveness pipeline and reaffirms OPA’s role in expanding the horizon of what our students believe is possible. Kilhah embodies the excellence we champion, and we are proud to have supported her journey.”
Designed to prepare the next generation of global leaders, the Schwarzman Scholars program’s unique combination of coursework, cultural immersion and personal and professional development equips students with a well-rounded understanding of China’s changing role in the world.
“Our eleventh cohort is a truly impressive group that fills me with optimism,” said Stephen A. Schwarzman, founding trustee of Schwarzman Scholars. “I am hopeful that their interest in China and global affairs, coupled with their leadership potential, will create opportunities for collaboration and dialogue at Schwarzman College and beyond. As we move into our second decade, our network’s impact continues to grow and I am proud of Schwarzman Scholars’ continued success.”
Lehman’s first Schwarzman Scholar was Lamount R. Evanson, a chemistry major, who because of COVID, was not able to travel to China. He is now in the virology doctoral program at Harvard University.
