Profile

Dr. Lisa Fusco began teaching health education in 2005. Throughout her almost 20-year career in health education, she has taught in both the private and public sectors and has worked in both community and school health settings. She earned her Ed.D. in Health Education from Teachers College, Columbia University in 2016. There she worked on her dissertation as a distinguished fellow of the Research Group on Disparities in Health.

Dr. Fusco joined the Lehman faculty in 2013, as a member of the Health Sciences Department, now known as the Department of Health Promotion and Nutrition Sciences. She has served as the Program Director of the M.S.Ed. program since 2016. In 2018, she developed the Health Education Advanced Certificate program after seeing a need for students who already have a master’s but would like to be certified to teach health education. She has been the Program Director of both programs since 2018.

In 2021, Dr. Fusco successfully registered the health education teacher programs with the New York State Education Department as Distance Learning programs, both have been operating fully online to accommodate students from all over.

Dr. Fusco is a firm believer that health education is the most important subject that can be taught in schools and that all health topics must be addressed with early aged children. Having qualified and certified teachers delivering the sometimes sensitive content, is crucial to delivering high quality health education to our children.
