Application Types

Graduate Degree Seeking Application - for those applying to begin a master's degree program.

Advanced Certificate and Extension Applications - for those applying for a short program of study in a particular subject. Most require the completion of a Master's Degree prior to applying. Financial Aid is not available.

Graduate Application for Non-Degree Admission - for those not applying to a master's degree program.

  • For those who wish to complete the teacher certification process independently with the Department of Education (DOE), must apply as a non-degree student through one of the following pathways:
    • An initial certificate through the Individual Evaluation
    • An additional initial certificate through the Classroom Teaching Certification
    • Advancing certificate level through the Certificate Progression

Please complete the pathways form and submit to the Program Advisor.

*Non-matriculated graduate students must reapply to the College by submitting the Graduate Application for Non-Degree Admission and pay the application fee following an absence from the College of any length.

Change of Graduate Curriculum (PDF) -  for currently enrolled students requesting a change in certification, subject area, and/or graduate degree program.  Complete and submit the form to the Office of Graduate Studies or Registrar.

Before submitting application

  • Ask individuals to complete the online Recommendation Form (two or three recommendations - depending on your program of interest). Reference letters submitted on your behalf: should be from instructors or supervisors who can attest to your past academic performance and capacity for graduate work; must be written on official letterhead and signed; and submitted to the graduate admissions office electronically through the application system.
  • Upload supporting documents (programs may have additional requirements)
    • Application essay: Type a career objective essay of 500 words describing your intellectual and academic interests, accomplishments, and goals. If there is anything anomalous in your academic record(s), please explain.
    • Refer to the application for specific academic program supplemental forms additional essay questions or required supporting documents.

    • Resume (required for all programs except those leading to teacher certification)

Mail your non-refundable $75.00 (advanced certificate/ degree-seeking / extension/ non-degree) or $20.00 (readmit) application fee and the Application Fee Voucher form (print from your ApplyYourself application) to the Bursars Office:

  • Add your Applicant Client ID, EMPL ID (if known), and the semester of entry to the memo portion of your check or money order.

  • Make sure you have submitted your application and have requested official transcripts simultaneously.
  • Request official transcripts for all college credits obtained during and after high school.
  • Transcripts are considered official only when sent via a digital credential company (ex. Parchment, E transcript, National Clearinghouse) to graduate.admissions@lehman.cuny.edu or U.S. Postal Service to:

  • Applicants who attended institutions outside the United States must submit foreign credit evaluation. Evaluations and translations should be completed 8-10 weeks prior to the deadline.

  • All applications and supporting documents received by Lehman College become the property of Lehman College and cannot be photocopied, returned or sent elsewhere.
    • If you are in your final undergraduate semester, submit the official transcript of course work completed to date. Upon graduation, a final transcript showing the degree awarded and conferral date must be presented.
    • If the applicant is a Lehman College alumni, the Lehman College transcript does not need to be submitted if in attendance from 1993 to present. The Office of Graduate Admissions will retrieve the transcript.
      • Applicants that attended Lehman College prior to this date must request a transcript from the Registrar's Office via the link here
      • Additionally, transcripts from colleges attended prior to Lehman College must be submitted.

  • Upon acceptance, you will receive registration and enrollment information via e-mail.  
  • Immunization Requirements – All students taking 6 or more credits in-person or hybrid are required to submit MMR and Meningitis (MEN) immunization records. You may do so by logging into your Lehman360 account and uploading your proof of immunization in the Student Health Portal. Alternatively, you can complete the Medical Requirements Form found here: Microsoft Forms and email your proof of vaccination to med.requirements@lehman.cuny.edu

    Please note, at this time new students will not be able to drop immunization records off to the Health Center in-person. All submissions must be completed electronically. If you have questions or need assistance, please reach out to the Health Center at med.requirements@lehman.cuny.edu.

    CUNY has announced that as of Summer 2023, students are no longer required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
