John McCluskey

John McCluskey (B.M., Lee University; M.A., Ph.D. University of Kentucky) is Professor of Music and Associate Dean of the School of Arts & Humanities at Lehman College. Prior to his appointment at Lehman, Dr. McCluskey served as the Dean of the School of Fine & Performing Arts at Shorter University in Rome, Georgia (2023-2026) and as the Chair of Shorter’s Edith Lester Harbin Department of Music (2016-2023).

As a musicologist and ethnomusicologist, McCluskey’s research centers on sporting soundscapes, particularly regarding American football, and he has published on this topic in American Music, the Journal of Festive Studies, and the Journal of the Society for American Music. His teaching reflects these interests in music, culture, and American identity, and he has designed and taught courses on American Music, Music and American Politics, Music and Videogames, an Introduction to Ethnomusicology, and Western Music History.
