Student Email

This spring, Lehman College is moving all active students to a new CUNY student email account in Microsoft 365—the same secure email system used by Lehman faculty and staff.

This new account will become your official Lehman and CUNY email.

You will access your new email using your CUNY Login Account (firstname.lastname##@login.cuny.edu)

👉 Use the same username and password you already use for CUNYfirst, Navigate, Brightspace, and others listed on the Login page which is accessed from Lehman homepage.

There is no new username or password to remember.

The transition will take place during Spring Break.

Starting Monday, April 13, all official Lehman and CUNY communications will be delivered ONLY to your new CUNY email account.

The new CUNY email account and single mailbox will be the student’s CUNY Login username (firstname.lastname##@login.cuny.edu), and it will receive all messages sent to any of the student’s college or CUNY email addresses.

Your Lehman College email address will be firstname.lastname##@stu-mail.lehman.cuny.edu.

To avoid access issues, please complete the steps below before Spring Break:

✅ 1. Set up Microsoft Multi‑Factor Authentication (MFA)

MFA is required to sign in to your new email and Microsoft 365.

👉To set up Microsoft MFA in advance of your student email transition:

  1. Open the Security Info Page in a web browser.
  2. Enter your CUNY Login credentials to sign in to Microsoft 365.
The Security info page for your Microsoft 365 account is displayed.
  3. Click + Add sign-in method.
The list of available factors is displayed.
  4. Choose one of the following factors for Microsoft MFA:
    • Microsoft Authenticator — if you have the Microsoft Authenticator app. To install it, please go to here.
    • Hardware Token — if you have a hardware token that displays one-time passcodes
    • Phone — if you cannot use Microsoft Authenticator and must receive an SMS text message or phone call instead (least secure)
  5. Follow the prompts to register your selected factor for use with Microsoft MFA.

After the transition to your CUNY email account, you will be prompted to respond to MFA prompts when logging into your email or accessing your Microsoft 365 applications.

Important to Know

  • When signing in to your new email or Microsoft 365 apps, follow the Microsoft MFA prompts.
  • When signing in to CUNYfirst, Brightspace, Navigate, or other CUNY systems, continue using the same MFA process you already use today.
  • If by April 13th, you have not completed the Microsoft MFA set up, you will be forced to do so when trying to access your new mailbox or any of the Microsoft Apps (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, Word, Excel, etc.)

Some students who are also CUNY employees may have already completed Microsoft MFA. If so, no additional action will be required.

  • If you have logged into your firstname.lastname@lc.cuny.edu email account within the past 9 months, your email messages will be automatically migrated to your new account.

  • If you have not logged in within the past 9 months, your email messages will not be migrated. Therefore, we strongly recommend you access the current Lehman Student Email immediately using your Lehman Login Account (used for Wi-Fi) to ensure your mailbox will be migrated.
