Lehman College began the new year by hosting its inaugural Winter Commencement Ceremony on January 22, honoring more than 875 members of the Winter 2026 graduating class during a morning celebration at the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts.

The ceremony recognized graduates from the College’s six academic schools, including students earning bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, certificates, and advanced certificates.

President Fernando Delgado reflected on Lehman’s identity as a community-centered college, applauding graduates for earning their success through persistence and urging them to carry that same commitment to community forward—making a positive difference wherever they can.

In her remarks, the Honorable Mayra Linares-Garcia, a CUNY Trustee, told students that although they “graduate at a time of enormous complexity,” it is also “a time of enormous possibility.”

Diana Janna Reyes Núñez, a creative writing major receiving her bachelor’s degree, also spoke to the power of possibility.

“Many of us here today are the first: the first in our families to attend college, the first to navigate the complexities of financial aid, the first to balance work, family, and school while chasing dreams our parents may have thought impossible,” she said.

“Being the first carries immense pride and responsibility,” she added
