Through an investigation of the long history of the Bartow-Pell estate, students discover the far-reaching influence of this family in American history throughout their long occupation of this property. Students will be able to imagine the great events of American history through the lens of a family local to the Bronx.

Students compare the architectural sites of the Gould Memorial Library with its inspiration, the Pantheon in Rome, in order to gain insight into the civilizations in which these structures were built.
New York Crystal Palace Enid A. Haupt Conservatory

Students study the social, cultural, and political conditions within which the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory at the New York Botanical Gardens was built. They will look at its inspiration and precedents from England by studying the Crystal Palace—the first glass house of its kind, built by Joseph Paxton and Richard Turner, and Decimus Burton’s Palm house at Kew, in England.
