SEEK Counseling & Academic Advisement

Decades of Guidance. A Lifetime of Impact.

For decades, SEEK counseling and advisement counseling has been at the heart of the SEEK Program at Lehman College. Our counselors do more than advise — they partner with students to help them persist, graduate, and prepare for meaningful careers. At SEEK, you are not navigating college alone.

Personalized Counseling and Academic Support

Upon admission, each SEEK student is paired with a professional counselor who remains their primary advisor from entry through graduation.

Students meet with their assigned counselor at least three times per semester to ensure consistent academic progress and continued eligibility for SEEK benefits.

Through individual and group counseling, students develop:

  • Clear understanding of general education and major requirements
  • Knowledge of Lehman College and SEEK policies
  • Awareness of campus academic support services
  • Academic and career planning strategies
  • Skills to track progress toward retention, degree completion and career
  • Skills to track progress toward retention, degree completion and career goals
  • Confidence in navigating college technology and systems

Through individualized advisement and our proactive Tiered Care System, we ensure that every student receives the right level of guidance and support at every stage of their academic journey.

ADD At SEEK, you are supported by someone who knows your goals — and helps you build a plan to reach them.

The SEEK Tiered Care System

Support That Adapts as You Grow

Our Tiered Care System allows us to remain proactive, responsive, and student-centered.

Tier placement is:

  • Not disciplinary
  • Not connected to financial aid
  • Designed to strengthen academic success

Students may move between tiers as their needs change.

Tier 1 – Stay on Track & Access Opportunity

Maintain academic momentum while connecting to internships, leadership roles, career planning, and next-step preparation.

Tier 2 – Strengthen Your Plan

Work closely with your counselor to address emerging academic concerns early and develop a structured success plan.

Tier 3 – Protect Your Progress

Receive closer, coordinated support to stabilize performance and protect academic standing and program eligibility.

Our goal at every tier is forward movement — toward graduation and career readiness.

Freshmen Year Seminar (FYI)

Entering first-year SEEK students are enrolled in a specialized Freshmen Year Seminar during the fall semester, taught by their assigned SEEK counselor.

The seminar is designed to:

  • Support the transition to college
  • Build study and time management skills
  • Introduce campus resources
  • Strengthen personal and professional development
  • Promote academic confidence and independence

This course reinforces SEEK’s developmental advising model and supports long-term student success.
