Transfer Student Guide to Lehman College


Congratulations on your acceptance to Lehman College!

The Percy Ellis Sutton S.E.E.K. Opportunity Program is excited to support you on your academic journey. This guide will help you understand:

  • How to qualify for Lehman SEEK
  • How the transfer acceptance process works
  • What you must do to keep your SEEK financial benefits
  • How to stay on track for graduation and career success

We are here to support your academic, personal, financial, and career goals.


To be considered for Lehman SEEK as a transfer student, you must meet the requirements below.


Academic Requirements

Transfer Credit Evaluation (TCE)

You must complete your Transfer Credit Evaluation (TCE) through Academic Advisement.

If you have not received your TCE, schedule an appointment:


Full-time enrollment
  • You must be registered for 12 or more credits (full-time) at Lehman College.

Follow the steps below to be reviewed for transfer SEEK placement.


Step 1: Submit the Special Program Transfer Form

Your completed Special Program Transfer Form (from College Discovery, SEEK, EOP, HEOP, or EOF) must be sent before the start of the semester to:

Step 2: Waitlist Placement
  • Once reviewed and approved, you are placed on the SEEK waiting list.
  • Placement is based on the date your form was received and approved.
  • Acceptance is first come, first served.
  • Students waitlisted from previous semesters are served first.
Step 3: Enrollment Capacity

SEEK has a maximum enrollment limit each fall and spring. Acceptance depends on:

  • Number of first-year students admitted (fall)
  • Number of continuing SEEK students returning
Step 4: Notification

SEEK will notify you of your acceptance status by the first week of the semester.

Step 5: First semester transfer program requirements

Once you are officially accepted into Lehman SEEK, you must complete the following first-semester requirements:


Attend SEEK Transfer Orientation (Required)

During orientation, you will:

  • Meet your SEEK Counselor
  • Review program expectations and academic requirements
  • Learn about tutoring, workshops, and academic support services
  • Receive guidance on maintaining your SEEK financial benefits
  • Get information about internships, career preparation, and campus resources
Important
  • Attendance is mandatory
  • Orientation details will be sent to your Lehman email
  • Missing orientation may delay or impact your SEEK participation

Attend the SEEK New Transfer Workshop (Required)

All new transfer students must attend the SEEK New Transfer Workshop focused on:

  • Campus engagement opportunities (clubs, organizations, leadership)
  • Career engagement and resources (Career Services, internships, job readiness)
  • Academic success tools and support services
  • Building your support network and staying connected to SEEK

This workshop helps you connect with campus resources and understand how to make the most of your first semester at Lehman.

To continue receiving SEEK financial benefits and services, you must meet the following expectations:


Academic and Major Requirements
  • Declare your major before reaching 60 credits
  • Meet with your major department advisor
  • Create a two-year academic plan with your SEEK Counselor
  • Maintain good academic standing

Counseling Requirements

You are required to meet with your SEEK Counselor at least 3 times each semester, including for:

  • Registration planning
  • Schedule changes
  • Graduation planning
  • Academic, financial, career, or personal support

You may be required to meet more often if:

  • Your cumulative GPA falls below 2.3
  • You enroll in fewer than 12 credits

Career and Professional Development

By the end of your first semester, you must have a Career Services–approved resume.

You are also expected to:

  • Attend at least one internship or job fair
  • Participate in two internships and other major-related activities before graduation
  • Apply for scholarships, fellowships, and internships
  • Participate in clubs, organizations, and campus events to expand your network

Academic Support Participation
  • Attend all required SEEK activities
  • Participate in SEEK tutoring when assigned or recommended
  • Attend class regularly and on time
  • Monitor course progress using your syllabus
  • Track your degree progress using Degree Works

Financial Aid Responsibility
  • File your FAFSA and TAP on time every year

Required SEEK Transfer Workshops

All SEEK transfer students must attend:

  • Transfer Orientation Workshop
  • Career and Campus Engagement Workshop

These workshops help you transition successfully and connect with campus resources.

Program Expectations for Academic Success

To maintain good academic standing and stay on track for graduation, you are expected to:

  • Use a planner or time management system
  • Follow your two-year academic plan
  • Monitor your grades regularly
  • Seek tutoring and academic support early
  • Stay engaged with your SEEK Counselor

SEEK is here to help—but staying proactive is your responsibility.


Preparing for Career or Graduate School

Our goal is to help you graduate prepared for:

  • Full-time career employment
  • Graduate or professional school admission


You are strongly encouraged to:

  • Gain hands-on experience through internships
  • Build a strong resume early
  • Network at campus events
  • Use career counseling and preparation support
