The Department of Finance, Information Systems, and Economics (FIE) is committed to the mission of the School of Business to develop the next generation of economists, business leaders, professionals, consultants, and entrepreneurs. The FIE Department offers two undergraduate majors: B.A. in Economics and B.A. in Economics and Mathematics.

The use of technology in the classroom, mentoring, internships, and academic clubs allow our students to engage actively in their educational experience at Lehman College. The Bloomberg Lab on campus gives students real-time access to a vast amount of data and a chance to earn a Bloomberg Certification, enhancing career opportunities as traders, investment bankers, fund managers, and research analysts. Our students also get to participate in the annual Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s College Fed Challenge competition, where they play the role of macroeconomists and monetary policymakers in analyzing macroeconomic conditions and coming up with a monetary policy recommendation. In August 2021, Lehman was one of only three CUNY colleges selected to launch the “Futures in Finance” initiative. This program, created through a partnership between Bloomberg LP, Centerbridge Partners, and Goldman Sachs, is designed to provide talented CUNY students with training, mentorship, and access to the financial services industry, creating a pathway for a career in finance through internships. These experiential learning opportunities allow our students to apply classroom learning to real-world problem-solving skills. At the same time, they also develop soft skills like thinking critically and analytically, preparing effective presentations, and working in teams, all valuable skills for both academic and professional careers.

We invite you to explore our Finance, Information Systems, and Economics department to get additional information on our programs and discover more about our faculty, staff, and students.
