Battipaglia on piano, Professor Davis will also perform excerpts from some of her most iconic roles.
About Osceola Davis
Lyric coloratura, OSCEOLA DAVIS earned dual Bachelor’s degrees from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, a Graduate Certificate in Opera Performance from the Curtis Institute, and later a Master of Arts in Teaching from Lehman College/ CUNY.
Following her time in Philadelphia at U of A and Curtis, Ms. Davis made a spectacular debut at the Munich Opera singing the role of Rosina in Rossini’s Barber of Seville, after which she returned to the US, debuting with the Metropolitan Opera performing Queen of the Night in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, the first person of color to be cast in this role by the MET.
Ms. Davis’ performances include Blondchen in Mozart’s The Abduction from The Seraglio, Olympia in Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann, Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto, and Zerbinetta in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos, among many others. Her career has taken her to, England, Italy, France, Germany, Russia, and Finland to critical acclaim. The Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat says “…her appearance combines delicate gracefulness and strength, with a nightingale-like voice,” and Germany’s Süddeutsche Zeitung says she possesses “…a voice of unlimited capability.”
Ms. Davis has performed for national presidents and ambassadors, has made several recordings of sacred music, has appeared in many noted concert/opera halls and on television, and was soloist for The First Church of Christ Scientist in Boston, Massachusetts. She is President of the Thomas Music Study Group, a branch of the National Association of Negro Musicians, and actively concertizes throughout the region. The National Opera Association awarded her its 2023 “Lift Every Voice Legacy Award.” Ms. Davis teaches voice at Lehman College.
