Administration: Office of Environmental Health & Safety

About EH&S

Lehman College is not only a place of learning, but also a workplace where many activities can cause occupational hazard and impact the environment. Federal, New York State, and NewYork City regulatory agencies have standards for specific potentially hazardous activities and processes that apply to colleges and universities. In addition to this regulatory framework, Lehman College and CUNY have developed policies and procedures for dealing with potential occupational and environmental hazards beyond compliance with regulatory agency mandates.

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Office strives to ensure a safe working environment at Lehman and to minimize its environmental impact. The EHS Office provides training, evaluation of workplace hazards, chemical hazard information and evaluation, indoor air quality evaluations, fume hood certifications, emergency response, and other services with the goal of minimizing the incidence of workplace accidents and injuries. The EHS Office is also responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, inclduing directly managing and overseeing the College’s multiple hazardous and regulated waste streams.

The EHS Office serves the entire Lehman College Community. Our customers are Lehman’s faculty, staff, students, and the campus itself. Requests concerning regulatory compliance, workplace hazards, and environmental issues are always welcome and encouraged. For more information, visit, call, or e-mail us.
