Biography

Karl Watson, Chief College Laboratory Technician, has been on staff in the Lehman Music Department since 1998. In addition to his technical and operational responsibilities, he is also a very active and versatile musician, performing professionally on a number of instruments in a wide variety of styles. At Lehman, he plays bass clarinet in the Community Band, saxophone in the Latin Jazz Band, clarinet in the Symphony Orchestra, and violin in the Chamber Orchestra.

Performing classical symphonic, jazz, rock, funk and other genre, Mr. Watson’s services are much in demand throughout the tri-state area for concerts, club dates, festivals, parades and weddings. Outside of Lehman, he is a violinist in the Yonkers Philharmonic, Manager of the Westchester Band, and appears regularly with the CUNY All-Star Jazz Band, Westchester Pops, White Plains Pops, Yonkers Concert Band, Yonkers Military Band, Tappan Zee Bridgemen, funk band Jungle Love, and atomic soul ensemble Preachermann & the Revival. In his "free" time he is an avid bicyclist.

A strong advocate for the collaboration between CUNY and the NYC Board of Education, in Spring 2012 Mr. Watson was honored for his service to the Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music, which has its music instruction on the Lehman campus.

He also received the 2012 Excellence in Service by a Faculty or Staff Member Award from the Lehman Office of Community Engagement & New Student Programs, for his involvement with the Lehman L.I.F.E. students during the preceding two years.
