Chair’s Message

Ning Chen Welcome to the Department of Management and Business Innovation!

We are committed to supporting the mission of the School of Business to develop business leaders, professionals, and entrepreneurs. It does this through excellent classroom instruction, online teaching, and experiential learning programs.

Our department offers an M.S. degree in Business, a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (BBA), and six undergraduate minors. These programs prepare students for careers in all sectors, including small businesses, corporations, and not-for-profit organizations. Among experiential learning programs offered by this department are upskilling courses (i.e., 1 to 2 credit skill-building courses in areas such as social media, data presentation, etc.) and the Small Business Internship Program (SBIP), which are offered in a partnership with the Lehman School of Continuing and Professional Studies. Under this SBIP program, students are given hands-on training in various areas of managing a business, followed by paid internships with small businesses in the Bronx.

National professional organizations such as the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), Association of National Advertisers (ANA), and Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) are active in our department and provide significant professional development and networking opportunities for students. Students compete annually in national professional challenges with faculty guidance and have won nationally recognized awards like the SHRM Merit Awards. Through client-based project work, our students help local small businesses create better connections with their customers and become more profitable.

Management faculty are highly qualified academics and experienced business professionals with expertise in business strategy, organizational behaviors, human resource management, marketing analytics, digital marketing, consumer behavior, and business law. They publish their research in leading academic journals, including Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of Business Research, and Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology. Our faculty bring cutting-edge research and a wealth of work experience to classroom instruction while regularly updating their courses so that our students are well-prepared and equipped to thrive professionally.

We invite you to visit our department through our website. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
