The competition is open to any high school student who plays a wind band or mallet percussion instrument, and who resides in the lower Hudson region, including New York City, Long Island, Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Orange, Fairfield, and Northern New Jersey. Each candidate must play a solo suitable to be performed with wind band, e.g. Haydn Trumpet Concerto, Chaminade Concertino for Flute, etc. It is strongly recommended participants audition with an accompanist, or bring a pre-recorded accompaniment (audio system will be provided upon request). Judging is based both on technical skill and artistic presentation.
