Message from Dean

Dean Hurley Welcome to the School of Business! The newest school at Lehman College launched on July 1, 2022.

The Lehman School of Business's core mission is to educate our students in business competencies through innovative and experiential learning-based programs. We aim to provide a transformative education to a diverse group of students in collaboration with businesses in the Bronx, the rest of New York City, and beyond. Our goal is to produce graduates who will become successful, ethical, and socially responsible leaders, professionals, and entrepreneurs.

Demand for business graduates remains strong nationwide. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics projections, employment in business and finance, for instance, should grow by 8% through 2030. The appeal of the business education lies in giving a solid academic preparation combined with practical focus and the diversity of employment opportunities available upon graduation. NACE’s Job Outlook 2018 survey reported that 8 of the 10 top majors in demand by employers at the bachelor’s degree level fall in the business category.

Made up of three academic departments (Accounting, Management and Business Innovation, and Finance, Information Systems, and Economics), the School of Business offers five undergraduate degrees in accounting, business, and economics and two M.S. degrees in accounting and business. Student chapters of national professional organizations such as the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) and National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) are active in the school, providing significant professional development and networking opportunities for students. Students also compete annually in national professional challenges with faculty guidance. Our teams have won the Deloitte Case Study Challenge, The College Fed Challenge - Maiden Lane Division, and the SHRM Merit Awards.

We are also incredibly proud of our faculty, who breathes life and excitement into our courses. The faculty's scholarly research covers many areas, from banking in developing countries to leadership development, international business, health economics, international finance and trade, gender and diversity in management, financial reporting, and competitive strategy. Our faculty regularly publish their research in peer-reviewed journals and present their findings at professional conferences. Also, many have applied work experience in their fields of teaching and research.

We invite you to explore our website to get additional information on our programs and discover more about our faculty, staff, and students.
