Nursing Academy Names Dr. Catherine Alicia Georges a 2019 Living Legend
From the Chair, Dr. Catherine Alicia Georges
During this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Nursing at Lehman College (DON) acknowledges the great contributions of health care workers, EMTs, fire fighters, police officers, and the citizenry who have contributed to the safety of this nation. We are especially proud of the graduates of our undergraduate and graduate programs who continue to provide quality health care services to our communities.
The Department of Nursing, a department in the School of Health Sciences, Human Services, and Nursing, offers undergraduate and graduate nursing programs to a culturally diverse student body. Its undergraduate nursing program includes the traditional generic and an accelerated program, and the registered nurse completion track, which has an online option. Its graduate program currently offers two tracks of specialization: pediatric nurse practitioner program, and a family nurse practitioner program. It also offers post-master’s certificates in both the pediatric nurse practitioner and family nurse practitioner tracks.
The DON's Strategic Plan incorporates the recommendations of the 2010 Institute of Medicine Future of Nursing Initiatives for a Doctorate of Nursing practice. Effective August 2020, the Doctor of Nursing Practice programs in pediatric nurse practitioner and family nurse practitioner have been launched.
The DON has developed a number of partnerships over the last few years with a variety of nursing organizations and health care agencies. It has developed an innovative foreign nurse program and offers a number of upgrade and training programs for various health care agencies in the greater New York area.
In all of its present and future endeavors, its faculty is committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and community service. Members of the Department have served and will continue to serve as leaders in professional nursing organizations, national and international organizations, and as mentors to current students and alumni.
