Nursing Academy Names Dr. Catherine Alicia Georges a 2019 Living Legend

From the Chair, Dr. Catherine Alicia Georges

Chair, Dr. Catherine Alicia GeorgesThe Department of Nursing at Lehman College is part of the School of Health Sciences, Human Services, and Nursing. The Department of Nursing offers undergraduate and graduate nursing programs to a culturally diverse student body. Our undergraduate nursing program includes the traditional generic and an accelerated program.  Our registered nurse completion track has an online option. Our graduate program currently offers five tracks of specialization: parent child nursing, adult health nursing, nursing care of older adults, a pediatric nurse practitioner program, and a family nurse practitioner program. Effective January 1, 2018 the parent-child tract, and the adult health and older adult nursing tracks will be discontinued to comply with NYSED requirements. We also offer post masters certificates in the pediatric nurse practitioner program, family nurse practitioner program, nursing education, and nursing administration.

The Department of Nursing has submitted program proposals for the adult-geriatric clinical specialist and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs to NYSED.

The Department of Nursing has developed a number of partnerships over the last few years with a variety of nursing organizations and health care agencies. We have developed an innovative foreign nurse program and offer a number of upgrade and training programs for various health care agencies in the greater New York area.

The Department of Nursing's Strategic Plan incorporates the recommendations of the 2010 Institute of Medicine Future of Nursing Initiatives. We are planning for a Doctorate of Nursing practice and a dual degree program in partnership with our community colleges in the Bronx and Queens within the near future.

In all our present and future endeavors, our faculty is committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and community service. Members of our Department have served and will continue to serve as leaders in professional nursing organizations, national  and international organizations, and as mentors to current students and alumni.
