Scaffolding toward a high-stakes assignment in history assignment
Professor Cindy Lobel assigned the students in her HIU 333: Urban History class a series of assignments that built upon one another to culminate in a final high-stakes paper describing the history of a fictional city. The goal of the assignment was for students to isolate the patterns of development for cities and identify characteristics of cities at different points in time, and then apply them to another, fictional, city. The schema below illustrates how she scaffolded the assignments leading up to the final paper.
Note: high stakes assignments are in red and low-stakes assignments are in purple.
